About The Sacramento Model Railroad Historical Society:
This is the home of the Sierra Central Railroad modeled in HO scale, standard and narrow gauge layouts. The standard gauge is modeled on the Southern Pacific and Western Pacific railroads between Oakland and Keddie, California.
The Sacramento Model Railroad Historical Society is dedicated to advancing understanding of railroading and its history and impact on the development of our nation, as well as developing an understanding of railroad operations and technical skills through model railroading. The society will construct and maintain model railroads based on prototype railroading, conduct educational programs, provide public shows, provide technical information to the general public and provide a service to the local community.
The Society grew out of the 1948 establishment of the Sacramento Model Railroad Club. Incorporated in the State of California in 2000, SMRHS, Inc. is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for public and charitable purposes [Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3)]. All incorporation documents are available on-site for public viewing.
Members of the Society come from a wide range of occupations and ages. Emphasis is placed on fellowship, operations, and education in all aspects of model railroading and railroad history. Most of all, we have fun!
We are always looking for new members; experience is not required but enthusiasm is! Areas of interest include operations, scenery, track work, electronics, and general construction.
Visit Tuesday and Friday evenings
If you would like more information on the Society and the membership, please visit us during our regular meeting times from 7:30 to 9:30 on most Tuesday and Friday evenings (be sure to check the calendar page). We can give a more thorough tour of our building and a "behind the scenes" look at the model railroads. It will also allow you to talk with Society members and describe your interest in the hobby.
